Lactation and Postpartum Doula

HOLISTIC LACTATION COACHING

Lactation is best described as the process of producing and releasing milk from the mammary glands in your breast/chest. Successful nursing journey’s are a compilation of education, self-awareness, and support. Education about the lactating body deepens the understanding behind the process and can help make new parents aware of some potential challenges both them and their newborn could face. Self-awareness defines what you know you need as the lactating individual as far as your mental health and initiative/drive are concerned.

The true key to success is support. A combination of family/spousal support, community resources, peers, and a lactation professional in your corner are the support pillars necessary for overcoming almost any lactation issue. The process of feeding your baby your own human milk is both awe inspiring and daunting. It’s truly a skill set learned by both yourself and your baby and through this learning curve, even the most successful feeding journey’s need support from all angles.

Holistic lactation coaching is a method that aims to include the family as a unit when sorting through the education, tools, resources and skill involved with nursing your baby. Coaching through the process of lactation starts with prenatal education in ideal situations. However, it’s never too late to access support.

HOLISTIC NEWBORN COACHING

Newborns are tiny humans that come with no instruction manuals. They need the basics, food and shelter along with a clean bum and those things are easy enough to comprehend. But beyond that, there is a lot to know about caring for a newborn. Some of the things holistic coaching covers are:

Understanding diaper rashes: What does each type of rash mean, how to treat them, and most importantly - how to prevent them!

Baby sleep: Understanding baby sleep development and how to support your baby through sleep transitions at a pace you are comfortable with and confident in.

Activities: Helping you understand what your baby’s brain needs at the various stages of development.

Mobility: What are the milestones, and why they are important!

Family Values & Dynamics: Parenting is a huge topic, but it starts before day one, so coaching provides guidance in establishing what vibes well with your parenting goals early on.

Siblings: Ideas to make sure your other children feel heard and included. Easing the transition to baby siblings, and helping to foster great sibling bonds for the future.

Coaching sessions may also include baby feeding, and future feeding goals. Chats about infant first aid and CPR, daycare, and anything that may come up in the first year. Sessions are shaped uniquely with each family to help you become confident in your parenthood.

PRENATAL LACTATION AND NEWBORN EDUCATION

Nothing will entirely prepare a new parent for the nursing journey, or postpartum as a whole. However, the best way to enter into the fourth trimester (the first few months after having a baby) is to learn the basics of lactation and newborn care.

Within these private sessions, Lauren has the opportunity to teach you about lactation, newborn care skills, and more based on what you already know and building from there. You can choose to do as little as one session virtually, or in your home, and add on further sessions until you are satisfied with your knowledge base.
